This project involved a complete update of an outdated living room, combining extensive preparation, plastering, decorating, flooring and general renovation work.
The existing wallpaper was stripped from all of the walls, revealing a number of damaged and cracked areas underneath. The walls were repaired and replastered where required to create a sound, even surface before the decorating work began. Once prepared, the room was completely repainted, using a clean white finish throughout with a contrasting blue feature wall to create a strong focal point.
The old fireplace and surround were also removed as part of the renovation. The area was redesigned with a much simpler contemporary feature, including a decorative stove-style fireplace, tiled hearth and timber mantel.
To complete the transformation, new wood-effect flooring was laid throughout the living room, replacing the old carpet and helping to give the room a warmer, cleaner and more modern appearance.
This was an especially enjoyable project because it brought together many different aspects of my work—from stripping and surface repairs through plastering and decorating to flooring installation and finishing details. The result was a complete transformation of the room rather than simply a cosmetic repaint.
